Siren Calling

Digital and physical ~ livestreams, videos, workshops and festivals created in Suffolk by and for young people about Nature and future

A digital festival and projects that help young people imagine a better future for themselves and Nature: to help give them agency to change the things that can be changed; and the resilience to adapt to the things that can’t.

Siren is a project from Incredible Oceans for young people. They have climate change, loss of nature, pandemics and more to deal with: no wonder they feel anxious and powerless about their future. We aim is to use music, film, performance, science, art and creative projects to make ‘nature’ and ‘environment’ relevant to their lives and in ways that address up-skilling, self-confidence and social isolation.

Why?  Human and non-human futures are changing fast. ‘Environment’ and ‘Nature’ are no longer words familiar only to scientists, specialists and land managers, but instead to us all. At a time when young people are aware of climate change, loss of nature, pandemics and more, it makes sense that they feel anxious and powerless about their future.

What?  Our aim is to help young people imagine a better future: to give them agency to change the things that can be changed; and the resilience to adapt to the things that can’t.

How?  Through music, film, performance, science, art and creative projects, we make ‘nature’ and ‘environment’ relevant to young people’s lives, in ways they can relate to. Our workshops, skill-sharing and mentoring encourage youth participation, connection with nature, mental health and well-being, self-confidence and a sense of belonging.

Siren is about action and hope, seeking to replace “so what?” with “what if?”
